Remember as a kid you'd write down a list of things you'd like to have. Well, I made a WISH LIST in case some folks wanted to share in my simple dreams.
Thank you for visiting nans.us. Please come again.
Over the coming weeks there will be some big changes coming to Bloom Where You're Planted.com. This is bitter- sweet for me as I have loved this software but I will be changing over to another software and will be adding some new links.
I hope you will like what changes will occur. Geeklog is the current software and it has served me well but of late, I have found one that is a bit more simple Wordpress) and that takes less time to enable and promote so I have decided (with much anguish really) to move on along. As I say... bitter-sweet. Anyhow, we have to move a long in life don't we? So..., Please be sure to let me know what you think. The new site is here
Well, if you've been keeping up with my blog, you know that I've been writing about all of the animals in my yard. Well, I was saying goodbye to my dad and mom tonight when we heard a "who- who- who- Whooooooo" sound. My dad said, " That's a sound I heard as a boy in the woods in South Carolina".
The area was pitch dark and as we continued to walk towards their car, we continued to hear a family or several families of owls hooting one to another. It was some sound.
This has been some week for birds here in our neighborhood! I've always loved birds but in the past few years have made a
- I'm thinking that there is a mess of hawks in the woods next to my home. Yesterday after a fuss and fight with a black bird, one of the hawks landed on the neighbors fence. As I watched, I saw several hawks and believe now that there must be a nest in the tree. It was probably a mama and a daddy. The daddy was fighting with the black bird and probably just trying to keep him away from
It is my understanding that a new law was made whereby people can have lunch with their animals at an outside cafe. Before this time, it was a health concern. But now, it seems they have determied that it's okay. So, I just went and tried out the thing and folks... it's great! If you have a dog just go and try it! I had a roast beef sandwich, chips and iced-tea. It was one of the
I hear that hawks can fly down and get small dogs. I have a small weenie dog- "Zoe". She's a miniature dachshund and precious beyond words. A lot of time, I see several hawks fly in and around the yard. I hear them "caw", "caw", "caw" in the yard even when I dont' see them.
I worry about Zoe and really keep an eye on her when she's in the yard. While I may let all of the dogs out, I generally don't leave her for long as I do worry that ole' hawk might be hungry and see her as a meal.
Last week, I was outside with my long lense and camera. I was just photographing what was available and lo and behold there sat that big ole'
(inan.info) My red headed woodpecker has absolutely gone nuts! He's beating his head fast and furious in the tree behind the house. He seems to like the pine trees best these days. I've noticed that there are actually two in the yard and both are males. The males are the prettiest. I see the female from time to time but for the most part she stays in the background.
The red headed woodpecker has a tongue I'm told. Ha! How about that! It pecks and uses it tongue to get the goods I guess!
Anyhow, its a beauty! According to Wikipedia...."The woodpecker first locates a tunnel by tapping on the trunk. Once a tunnel is found, the woodpecker chisels out wood until it makes an opening into the tunnel. Then it worms its tongue into the tunnel to try to locate the grub. The tongue of the woodpecker is long and ends in a barb. With its tongue the woodpecker skewers the grub and draws it out of the trunk.".
I was able to get a lot of photos of this Woodpecker which I called.... You guessed
One of the most fun things about where I live is the wildlife. This week has been exciting in that a Florida softshell turtle has been looking for a place to lay eggs. When any of us or the dogs come out the door, the turtle runs back down the bank and back into the water so it has been hard to get a photo of him. This week though, for some reason, she did not see me or she did not care and I was able to get pretty close before she went down the hill.
I read that softshell Florida turtles can live up to 30 years old. They are carnivorous and eat fish, frogs, insects and crustaceans. I have named her "Lucy" because I happened to be watching "I Love Lucy" as she was climbing the bank of the pond. She has some neck! It stretches out like she's reaching for a blessing!

(Update- He's the richest man in the world again- 3-09)-Well, how about that! Bill Gates only has $58. billion dollars! Humph! He's not the richest man in the world now. For thirteen years, he was known as the richest man in the world. It seems that his bid for Microsoft to buy Yahoo has caused his stock to drop and as a result two others have stepped in front of him. Bill Gates still is to be revered though, as his foundation is the largest foundation in the world and it was created in 2000 to help vaccinate people in countries that cannot afford medicines.
According to reports, Gates will leave Microsoft as Chairman and begin to spend more time in is philanthropic endeavors. Well, good for the world's third richest person!
We really all know that it isn't the amount of money that we make that
The weather around here has been hot. We've had a few days of rain but the humid weather is great for Florida snakes but it's certainly not great for me! I was out cutting the grass with the walking mower when a black snake was seen out of the corner of my eye. I did not mean to see that snake but I'm glad I did because I could have easily stepped on it!
Lately, to get more exercise, I've been mowing the yard each day using a Toro self-propelled mower. It pulls itself and I put it on high and walk briskly through the yard as it cuts. Well, after putting gasoline in the mower yesterday, I turned to put the gas container away and there sat the longest snake ever!

I'm not perfect ( I know many of you are surprised!) but I do realize and know right from wrong. Recently, I was visiting a Reseller Hosting blog and read about how the big company "Nssan" sued the little guy . I'm happy to see that the big guy did not win. I don't know about how you feel? It seems the little guy's name is "Nissan" and the big guy owns the big car industry, "Nissan" (which once was called Datsun). Anyhow, the big guy (Nissan autos) wanted the name "Nissan.com" because they claimed it was their right to own it. The little guy's name is "Nissan" and OWNS the name but had to fight the big guy to keep the name. I don't know how the little guy has kept up financially but I'm so happy to hear that he has done it. If you are in need of a computer, please buy one from him (Disclaimer... I know NOTHING about his services and so I'm only going on the information that he offers on his website Nissan.com . While I say "buy something", always check out businesses before buying... } I just want to see him succeed if he's truely the computer guy he says he is! Right is right and wrong is wrong. If we will
